Food Design for Young Chefs • Ages 4–12
Creative Cooking is where food meets design thinking. In this 8-week program, children aged 4–12 learn to cook while also thinking like food designers — considering colour, texture, presentation, and the experience of eating. Students experiment with ingredients, learn basic kitchen techniques, design their own recipes, and present their food creations to their classmates. Beyond cooking skills, children develop confidence, creativity, and a healthy relationship with food.
Safety, hygiene, basic tools, and the kitchen as a design space.
Design visually beautiful dishes using colour theory applied to food.
Explore contrasting textures and flavour combinations — sweet, sour, salty, crunchy.
Modify existing recipes to create something new — the design thinking of cooking.
Learn plating techniques from professional chefs. Food is visual design.
Each student designs, cooks, and presents their own signature dish at the showcase.
Children leave with practical kitchen skills they can use at home — chopping, mixing, measuring, and basic heat techniques appropriate to their age.
Understanding colour, texture, and presentation in food builds cross-disciplinary design thinking that applies far beyond the kitchen.
Children develop a curious, positive relationship with ingredients and healthy food choices — without lectures or pressure.
Designing their own recipes builds confidence that their ideas have value and that creativity is a learnable skill.
Measuring, scaling, and timing in cooking makes maths concrete and purposeful for young learners.
Cooking alongside classmates builds communication, cooperation, and the ability to work towards a shared goal.
Curious about food, ingredients, or what happens when you combine things. Loves hands-on activities where they can see a result. Enjoys trying new flavours and being creative in the kitchen.
No cooking experience needed — all techniques are age-appropriate and fully supervised. The class welcomes complete beginners from age 4.
